Community Read- Summer 2009-in conjunction with Greenville Library’s Amazing Read and the MCNC 2010 Ambassador’s meeting hosted by Brashier Middle College. A Community Read is an activity where all students read the same book. When they return to school in the Fall, they will be able to discuss the book as it relates to all of their classes.

Book: Saints At The River, by Ron Rash

Price: $14.00- can be found at Amazon.com used from $1.34 and up. Also, the library has MANY copies of this book, and they are ordering more due to its popularity.

This book is the Greenville County Library’s Amazing Read book. They are encouraging all of Greenville’s residents to read this book and go to the library for group discussions.

Book Summary: The town of Tamassee, South Carolina erupts in heated controversy after a twelve-year-old girl drowns in the local river. When the girl’s parents discover an inventive way to free her body from underwater, some of the town’s environmentalists refuse the disturbance to their one remaining natural treasure. Follow Maggie Glenn, a Columbia newspaper photojournalist, as she sympathizes with the town she grew up in while trying to stay objective.

Note: All students need to read this book regardless of the English class they are taking next year. All subjects will be referring to or using this book as part of their curriculum.
