Latosha Hackle prepares for a free throw

This is it. The moment they have been working towards. You can see it on their faces-the intimidation  in their stares. The crowd is restless. Shouts of encouragement come from every direction. The two girls meet at center court, and when time starts and the ball is thrown, both girls jump and for a moment time seems to slow down. All to quickly things speed back up and it’s go time and a BMC basketball game finally starts on our home court.

After a long wait, BMC had their first ever home basketball game on December 4th. All three teams played Anderson Christian school,  and all three BMC teams dominated.  The boys JV won 39 to 21, the Varsity boys won 53 to 5, and the girls Varsity won 39 to 20. Girls coach, Jim Coen, stated “I believe they have worked for that win. Anytime you commit yourself completely to something, good things will happen.” JV coach John Kabel, commented, “The whole team worked hard as a whole in order to help us win our first game”.

Many of the players and coaches were happy to see how much support they got from the fans.  Varsity player Paul Smythe said, “There were a lot more people there than last year, but we need more support. Games are more fun with more people there to cheer you on.”  Kabel agreed, “I think we had a great turn out for our first game, but we can always use more people. It really pumps our boys up when we have a good crowd show up and support our teams.”  Coen is hoping to have games where most of the student body attends, “I am in high hopes that we will have games where it is a black out, and the entire student body shows up to support all three basketball teams.”

The coaches have a lot of faith in their players and believe they are going to amaze everyone this season. Coen stated, “These young ladies are going to impress everyone on and off the court. They are working to make a name not only for themselves but for Brashier Middle College.” These teams were excited about their about their first home game win, but their thoughts are still on the goals for this year. Smythe stated, “My hopes for the rest of the season is state championships.” Coen has similar dreams,     “The team’s number one season goal is to make state playoffs. The top 4 teams in each region qualify and that is what we hope to accomplish this season.”
