On November 11, 2009 the Leadership class and History Department had a guest speaker in honor of Veteran’s Day.

Naval Nurse Doug Jennings is the father of Ben Jennings, a sophomore here at Brashier.

Jennings came to talk about Veteran’s day and what it means to him. Jennings mentioned that there is a difference between freedom and peace. Jennings also gave the students some personal accounts of providing medical assistance to members of Al Qaeda and the Taliban.

Jennings spoke of lost soldiers who gave their lives so that Americans may be free, and he talked about his ancestors. Jennings says, “Both of my grandfathers were in World War II and my father is retired navy.”

Jennings says that our generation is being given the torch of freedom and that it is students’ responsibility, as American citizens, to keep that torch burning.
