Being able to take college classes can be a relief and a burden at the same time. That’s how some students are feeling due to scheduling conflicts. In some rare cases some students are having to miss high school classes or lunch for college classes. Senior Kennan Gambrell says, “Because of my afternoon American Government class at the college, I miss lunch on Mondays and Wednesdays. And because I have Spanish 101 four days a week, I have to miss some of physics on Tuesdays and Thursdays.” Senior Ray Adcock misses lunch and parts of economics on Monday and Wednesdays and senior Aurelle McCain misses lunch, half of her senior project class, half of Probability and Statistics, and about ten minutes of Evironmental Studies.

BMC Guidance Counsler, Vickie McCammon had some advice to give to students with scheduling conflicts. She stated, “We realize it’s a problem and you’re never going to have the prefect schedule because the college has their set schedule and so do we, so we have to compromise. We try to give students the classes they want but sometimes it doesn’t work because of four day college classes and afternoon classes. The main thing is that they have to make sure they communicate with their teachers and get notes from peers. I strongly reecomend study groups with peers.”

While it may be hard to balance, it is not impossible. Senior Jessica Forbes also misses lunch and parts of Economics. She said, “To stay caught up I eat lunch during my 5th period, talk to Mr. Roberts, and study during college seminar.” Adcock stated, “I just have to take really good notes and study hard.”  While this may seem like a lot of extra work, this does not discourage them from taking college classes. McCain said, “This doesn’t discourage me because it’s a challenge, and I have college seminars that I can use to make up work and talk to teachers.”
