Coughing, sneezing, runny noses, sinus problems, congestion- it seems like the list never ends. Brashier Middle College has had sickness spreading through the school this winter. The unhealthy viruses have been things from just a simple cold to pneumonia. Missing school because of these illnesses has been hard on some students.

“I missed almost all of the teaching, of course. Then I had to go around to all of my teachers and make sure I got all of my work back, and then I had to do all the work that I didn’t understand how to do,” says Sophomore Samantha Storie. Germs spread quickly in a school environment. “If somebody is sick, don’t share their drink,” Storie adds.

Being sick doesn’t only affect the sick student, but it affects others around them as well. “It disrupted class cause I was coughing all the time, I probably got other people sick too. I got my brother sick, he has pneumonia now too,” says Sophomore Jamie Berggrun. Apparently, once one student is sick, it is very difficult to keep that sickness from spreading from person to person.

It is important to stay as healthy as possible while in school. Some wonder how it’s possible to stay healthy, but it is possible. “To stay healthy, I eat healthy and play sports,” says Freshman Alexa Leopold. Even though others are sick, that doesn’t mean you have to be. Leopold proves this to us. “I don’t like it when people come to school and they’re like, really sick, but it doesn’t really affect me that much,” Leopold adds.

It’s be great if some nasty folks would wash their hands once in a while after using the restroom. Aside from being gross, it gets everybody sick.

Every day I think in the bathroom, “Note to self: Don’t give that guy a high five.”

Also, please note that Emmanuel is modeling the correct technique for sneezing–the “Dracula sneeze” position (I did not make that up). Notice how he modifies the technique by using the other hand as added reinforcement.
