Pennies for What ?

“Anything I can do to help, I’ll do my best,” says Senior Hannah Kelly on giving to the Pennies for Patients fundraiser. A few days ago, Brashier’s Beta Club began a noble effort to try and raise money for leukemia patients. It is a school-wide challenge that’s got everyone giving their spare change, down to their last penny, to benefit those in need.
The only problem some students seem to have is the promise of an ice cream party to the class with the most money raised.”It’s like your being rewarded for giving,” says Senior Kyle Cavin. A couple of people disagree with the party and feel as if though students should want to give from the goodness of their own hearts, not because of an ice cream party. “How are they paying for the ice cream? Why don’t they use the money for the patients?” Senior Justin Barber says. Though this is not the main drive of all the students who contribute, some say this is one reason students are giving. Nikki Rich, a Junior, says,”I think it’s sad but that’s what drives teenagers to the competition.”
Barber has a suggestion that will help students give from the heart,”They shouldn’t tell them about the party until after the money is raised.” An idea Kelly agrees with, “Justin’s right, I think we should do what whatever we can.” Party or no party, the funds raised will help those battling cancer. I think most of us students want to give out of the good inside of them. But for the people who just give because they want an ice cream party…well at least it’s money going towards patients and hopefully raising more than would have been raised without an ice cream party.

Yea, ‘yall should donate money out of the goodness of your heart, not just think, “ooh if I give so much money I will win a party for myself.” Because that to me is selfish.

Hey, you know, cancer has touched all of us some way or another in our lives. And although an ice cream party is a plus, I know the students here and I know they wouldn’t give just because they wanted ice cream. I know regardless, my friends and I know if wethey wanted an ice cream bar or whatever, we could take the money we’re donating and use it to buy some dip n’ dots hahaha But that’s just me!!! I LOVE MY BRASHIERFARIANS ;D
