Obama’s Health Care Pitch, is it a Hit?

Recently, Brashier students have been debating in class about Washington’s on-going battle with President Barack Obama’s Health Care pitch. It seems as of right now in the nation’s capital is split right down the middle on passing or not passing the President’s plan. But, a new controversy and rumored scheme by some of the senators in the capital has surfaced and is making some, well, many Americans quite upset. Talk of reconciliation, that is pushing a bill through the Senate with 51% of support, could make the Obama Health Care Plan official in the United States. Seems fair right? It technically is but the problem most have with reconciliation is that most of the voting is being held behind closed doors. (Some Senators have been shut out of voting on such a drastic bill. )Senior Kaitlin Holzclaw feels, “People should know whats going on, it affects everyone. [The bill] would probably help out a lot of people.”

With more than half of all Americans in opposition to Health Care Reform though, passing this bill could pose problems with everyday citizens and those in Washington. “They are supposed to do what the people want,” says Junior Taylor Kimmel. Craig Martin, Brashier’s History and Current World Issues teacher feels, “I think [officials] should know, good or bad, so they will be held accountable for their actions.”

Since Obama first took office, he has made it clear one of his main priorities is Health Care Reform. Months have passed and the debate of the “public option” is still going on, leaving those whom it will affect in the dark. In regards to if most Americans would want the Reform and “public option,” Martin says,” That’s hard to say, I think there are a lot of people out there who need Health Insurance and see this as their best way, but, some would also see this as a quasi Government move.” Holzclaw says, “I’m not sure if it will pass or not but its been going on too long.” Both say that passed or not passed, the process should be done in public with not just the Democratic Senators voting, but Republicans and Independent Senators as well.

Shutting people out on voting is fueling the problem and pushing the final decision back even further. Martin feels,”Most people feel the best way to make laws is in public.” Obama says this about Health Care in the Greenville News,” I will persuade Congress to pass the Health Care overhaul even if it kills me.”

Great article. Even more disturbing is the use of public tax money to fund abortions. That is unimaginable.
And the Bill, although touted as “costing just a Trillion dollars” (as if a Trillion could ever be associated with the word “just”), actually is estimated to cost over 6 Trillion by Obamas own Congressional Budget Office (CBO).
This Bill is simply about moe control over our lives by the Government. It’s about taking ahold of 1/6 of the US economy.
With 2 wars raging, 10%+ unemployment and an economy teetering on bankruptcy, why has our President focused solely on Health Care ever since he took office? Power and control. 61% of Americans say no to this.
Is he listening? No. Is congress? No.
But hear them they will come November when most will be voted out of office.

While I am opposed to reconciliation or deeming to get the bill passed because something this important needs to be debated and to have the vote recorded – the real issue is what do we do about 45 million Americans who are not covered and what do we do about the escalating costs those of us who are covered pay each month. Something needs to be done NOW.

I agree, I do not think it is at all fair that if this bill is in fact passed, that those who do not go with the public option are fined. I am also nervous to see how our taxes will be effected by the cost of this as a whole. And with such awful percentages against this plan, I feel the people whom represent us should do just that, represent what we want. I think all the bickering in washington needs to stop, we can negotiate. In a recession, a trillion dollars needs to be spent wisely.

At this point I’m not sure exactly sure what the healthcare bill says and what it is going to do, but from the little information I do know I think it’s a good thing the healthcare bill was passed because now more people have healthcare.

i think that it is a good thing that the healthcare bill will support health care under parental insurence until age twenty six. this gives teenagers and young twenty year olds a chance to get on their feet before having to pay for health care also.

though in my opinion the fact that there will be a fine if you dont get healthcare is kind of unfare to the people who think they cant afford it. some people think that this is making the US a dictatorship. well it is one step torwards it.

I think that being under our parents health care until we’re 26 is a great idea because that way we can face the world without worrying about another bill that will kick our budgets. We need that money for other very important things like college!
