Brashier Middle College Charter High School opens their doors to upcoming freshmen in search for a better future. On Tuesday, December 4, 2008 at 6:30pm, BMC had over 150 parents and student come to open house, not only rising freshmen but also sophomores.
“I think it’s an environment where they can be,” said Linda VanHaasteren, mother of an upcoming sophomore.
At the event, parents mentioned reasons they want their children to attend BMC. “I know this school will encourage my children to go to college and be successful,” said Maria Cruz, mother of an 8th grader.
Parents also are looking for more attention towards their kids. “I want him to get personal attention, unlike many students at other schools that don’t get the attention,” said Kevin Lane, father of a hopeful freshmen future freshman. “If kids can grasp hold of what they are getting into, it’s awesome.” BMC left each parent very satisfied with its presentation that they also shared the impact that BMC has. “ I think it has a big impact…I mean the room was full,” said VanHaasteren repeating how the room where all parents and students were gathered was overloaded.
Some enrolling students also expressed their thoughts about BMC. “Great school,” mentioned Barbara Dos Santos, an 8thgrader at Mauldin Middle School. “I think it’s a safer school which offers me many opportunities,” add Maria Rodriguez, an 8thgrader attending Hillcrest Middle School. Dos Santos was very excited about BMC. “Wow, I love the school,” she said. Rodriguez’s thoughts were different. “It’s a little different and curious because I don’t know how I will feel once I am able to attend this school.”
Students want to come to BMC because it’s their path to the future. “It would be a better way to get to my future and a better education,” said Dos Santos. With students’ excitement and with them expecting the best of themselves, BMC will truly make an impact in a student’s life. “They will guide me and prepare me for college,” says Rodriguez. “I think it will change my way of life, being less lazy and more responsible,” Dos Santos said with a smile. With the exciting plan of the new building, parents are eager to see their kids being part of the BMC family. “I can see him graduating high school,” were Lane’s last words.
