Brashier Middle College students are now eligible for the Sirrine Scholarship from the Sirrine Scholarship High School Fund. In the case of the School District vs. Wachovia Bank N.A. and the Attorney General of South Carolina, it was decreed that “the Graduates of Charter High are henceforth eligible to apply for and be awarded Sirrine Scholarships from the Sirrine High School Fund based upon the same criteria as graduates of Greenville County public high schools administered by the school district of Greenville County.” This was decided by Edward M. Sauvian, Judge of Probate Court.

“I had no idea we were exempted from any scholarships just because we went to Brashier, and this seems like an easy decision that should have been made the first time,” commented Matthew Gowan, a Brashier Sophomore. “The more you know” said Sawyer Mayfield, another Sophomore at Brashier.

The J.E. Sirrine Trust was established after the death of Joseph Emory Sirrine in 1947. The program began awarding scholarships in 1973, and since then scholarships have been awarded to 5,930 graduates of Greenville County Public High Schools. Including renewals, the amount is almost 26.8 million dollars.  This year there are 588 Sirrine Scholars attending 82 colleges and universities in 22 states.
