A basketball player reaching the 1000 point mark in high school games over a four year span is unheard of. But one player has achieved this feat. Brashier Middle College Charter High School’s Jonathon Jackson did just that on February 15, 2011. Except it was 1001 points, according to the boys Varsity Basketball coach.
J.J., as the students at Brashier call him, ended up scoring the remaining points that he needed to reach his goal of 1000 points in three years. To put it in perspective, most people that play basketball during their high school years don’t even reach that mark in the four years that they play. Jackson did it in three.
Jon Jackson, the star player for the Brashier Bengals says, “At first, I didn’t think that it was possible for me to reach that amount of points. My Sophomore year there was another player who played their final game and needed a few more points to reach a 1000 and I thought to myself ‘that could never be me.’ But when Coach Bobby told me that I was 108 points away with 10 games left to reach a 1000 points, it was a shocking surprise, but I made it my top goal to end my season.”
Many people all around the school are talking about J.J. and how he reached that goal. Many of the coaches are talking about it also.
Coach Bobby, the coach for the Brashier Bengals boys’ Varsity team says, “John’s performance was amazing. Seriously he was amazing throughout his whole career.”
Coach Kabel, the coach for the Brashier Bengals boys’ JV team says, “The fact that our Varsity boys team made it to the playoffs was quite an accomplishment. But having one of our players accomplish this makes our school look even better.”`
Jackson did not just drive to the hole and get an easy last point for his career or make an outside jump shot. The way he got his final points was actually very miraculous.
Kabel says, “There were four minutes to go in the game, and we knew we weren’t going to win. J.J. only needed 7 more points for the 1000 so we gave him the ball as much as we could. With 33 seconds to go, he needed 1 more point. St. Joes double teamed him. J.J. drove to the hole and missed it, but was fouled in the process. He went to the free throw line and made his last shot of the season to put him at the 1000 mark. The St. Joe’s coach gave J.J. the game ball even though we lost because of his performance.”
Jackson and his teammate Stephen Higgins have been nominated to play in two all-star games because of their outstanding performances.
Jackson says, “To me I felt like I wasn’t doing as good my junior year as I did my sophomore and senior year. It was a tough year for the team, as an individual I’ve had some better games. But I kept my composure that year and made my career better without giving up.”

He also got a small concussion a couple weeks before the last game and was out for a few games and still got 1000
