Valentines Day Flop

I went to see Valentine’s Day movie, and I was completely underwhelmed by it. I felt like the movie had every person who played in a romantic comedy or “chick flick” in the past 5 years. It was done in the same style as He’s Just Not That into You, but this time everybody understood the relationship connections.

It seemed every actor or actress in the film had gotten their start in another previous Gary Marshall film. Most played in a good role, but a select few didn’t fit, like Anne Hathaway who played an adult phone entertainer, which is too far from her personality. Taylor Swift didn’t strike me as great. She played a dumb blonde who was too much in love with her boyfriend, but she didn’t have any emotion in her lines.

I also felt like the characters were too dumb to figure anything out. All of their personalities were dry cut, probably due to the fact each one only had around 5 minutes to get to show it. There was a no main character, which made it hard to follow. Nothing in any relationship was complex; everything was explained and easy to understand. The characters were basic and everybody had a defining moment, but most of their personalities stayed the same.

The movie had great actors, but they didn’t get a chance to show off why they were great. There was no real drama or main event. Everything just rolled off. Nobody cried or had a sentimental moment, just happiness, break up, happiness. Everybody was easy to label: cheater, love hater, in love, fearful, naive, high schooler with no view and who has never had a girlfriend. And, I realized all this in the first 10 minutes. The first time I didn’t see “something coming” was in the last minute when Julia Roberts kissed her son.

I think this was the first time I’ve been in a movie where I checked my cell phone to see how much more I had to endure. Since I saw He’s Just Not That into You, Valentine’s Day had too many little “surprises” in one day, which mad it unrealistic. At the beginning of the day Ashton Kutcher’s character asked his girlfriend to marry him, and he was all happy. Then she left him in the middle of the day, and he came home when she was leaving. Then, at the end of the day, he was 110% over  her. This was just too much for one day!

I don’t think it was worth the $8 to see it. I wouldn’t even go if it was free.

the point of acting is to step into the role of someone who is different from you…but i agree it was a bit much for one days worth of events
