The book and movie, The Lovely Bones is about a 14 year old girl named Susie who gets brutally murdered. After Susie gets brutally murdered she goes to a world before heaven to watch and guide her family to find the killer.
The book has very graphic scenes describing how she was murdered. The book, The Lovely Bones, describes the murder scene with words like, “cut up, blood spewed everywhere, yelped.”
However, the movie just glazes over the murder scene. And if you did not read the book you spend around twenty minutes trying to find out if/how Susie died.
In the movie the director has added some special effects scenes that were not in the book. One such scene takes place in Susie’s house. The father of Susie is standing under some shelves that have boats in bottles. He picks up these bottles and he throws them on the ground, breaking them into bits and pieces. While this is happening in the father’s world, in Susie’s world there are gigantic boats in bottles that also break into bits and pieces as the father throws them down and breaks them in his world.
But in the book all of this did not really happen. To me, these effects were unnecessary, because the only point I see that it tries to portray is how upset the father is about his daughter’s death.
The book was definitely better than the movie because it was more descriptive, and I could understand what was happening it the book better. If you have read the book, then you should definitely go see the movie, but if you have not read the book, then you should read the book first.

I read the book for an Independent Reading Challenge Book in English! It was definetly a good book, and I guess I won’t be seeing the movie anytime soon. Not worth my time, according to this very article.
