March decided to confirm the Groundhog’s prediction of six more weeks of winter with an exclamation mark!

Sunday, March 1st started out as anything but sunny. It was cold, windy, and wet, with everyone waiting for snow. Around 4:30pm it started snowing and it lasted until 11:15pm.

“There was about 6.5 inches of snow by the time it stopped and had compacted to just under 6 inches the next morning,” said Wayne Jones, retired National Weather Service employee.

“The snowfall varied considerably across the area. In this case there were some thunderstorms involved, and the snowfall rate was much higher near those storms,” Jones said.

Greenville County School District closed the schools for two days, so that gave the students two free days of fun.

“I went sledding at the YMCA…without a sled,” said Junior Rankin Dam.

“I had a snowball fight with my brother and my dog,” said Freshman Brianna Hanson.

“I went outside to play in the snow, but that only lasted 10 minutes, as I realized my body doesn’t work like it used to, soon as the coldness hit I was gone,” said Junior Aurelle McCain.
