On a Friday afternoon, some students are preparing to take a test instead of heading home for the weekend. Students walk in the retesting room and nervously take the new version of an old test and they hope to make a passing grade. Retesting allows students to retake a test if they fail it. The student stays after school on Fridays, and the retest grade is averaged in with the original grade. Students must attend Academic Assistance to be able to retake the test.

“I think retesting is good because it gives you a chance to make a higher grade on a test and bring your grade up,” says Freshman Gabbi Mabbitt.

“I think retesting is stupid,” says Shelby White. “You should have studied for the test in the first place and then you wouldn’t have to retake it!”

“I try to support the students that do not like retesting as much as those who do like it,” says Mrs. Freeman. “Some students would see higher averages in their classes if they would take advantage of retesting. I encourage all students to take advantage of retesting, regardless of their opinion on the matter.”

Many students take advantage of retesting. But, some students are reluctant to take advantage of this opportunity to improve their grade.

”Yeah, [there are a lot of students complaining about retesting,]” says sophomore Raven Bailey. Students sometimes complain because it takes up their Friday afternoon and if they make a grade high in the 70s, then they sometimes feel it is unnecessary to retake a test.”
