President Obama’s Adress to Kids

Brashier presented President Obama’s address to the student body on September 18th. But, there was division among students who felt listening to the speech was alright and those who thought they’d rather not hear the speech. Parents received an  emailed explaining that they and their child had the right to decide if they wanted to watch the speech, and they did not wish to, they didn’t have to and were more than welcome to skip the speech. Brashier students on both sides of the fence had much to say about the President’s address, which was presented to students all across the country from kindergarten to twelfth grade. These are just a few of the many opinions on Obama’s speech.

“I’m totally against what he does and sometimes the things he says are lies.”

-          Sarah   10th grade

“Great speech, my favorite part was ‘staying in school will get you a better job in the future’.”

-          Andres  11th grade

“Lame and kind of corny, I’ve heard that speech so many times…from my mom.”

-          Savanna 11th grade

“The speech was pretty good, just a basic motivational speech. I liked how he said it is our responsibility to do well in school.”

       -Laura 10th grade

“The speech was really good; it reached out to a lot of teenagers.”

-          Tabitha 10th grade

“The speech was very inspirational.”

I personally could have gone my whole life without listening to that corny, less than called for speech, with his “down home”, “momma said” metaphors and references to his own [priveledged] life. I see enough of him on the news, and deeply resent having the speech played at school. I applaud Joe Wilson.

I somewhat agree w/ anonymous, however, it was wrong for Wilson to yell out in the middle of a, rather large, gathering in the House.
