On November 11, 2009 Greenville Tech Charter and Brashier Middle College MCNC ambassadors met online to participate in a Jam. A Jam is a focused discussion that allows students to read and post comments as their schedules allow. Students participate in Jams through their post. Normally, Jams are held for all participants in MCNC from around the country but the first Jam for the 2010 conference was held specifically for the host ambassadors which are BMC. The focus of the Jam was about how to make the Greenville conference the best it can be, the conference theme of water, and the role of a host ambassador.

At the end of every conference the host ambassadors for next year start thinking of how to make their conference better than ever. All of the host have their own ideas as to how to make the conference the best conference ever. Senior Jessica Forbes said, “I think it is a really good idea to know our information inside and out. If we can know the history and know the schedule for the conference then we will be able to be great host.”

Some are using their personal experiences with MCNC to decide how to make the conference better. Alex Thomason, a senior who attended the conference in Denver last year, stated, “I think a good conference experience is one where students get to meet new people and have fun. I think they should also spend time with their school as well. I remember that some of the fun we had in Denver was just hanging out in the room or eating together.”

The theme is what the conference is all about. This year the theme is water conservation and the conference is titled “Water: Our Rivers, Our Responsibility.” Morgan Clark stated, “It’s kind of hard to think about conserving water when not many news sources are talking about it and when you feel like you have a difficult time avoiding it. This is the mindset we must address. Convincing people to use water resources responsibly and treat water as something that must be protected must be an essential part of our mission.”

Finally one of the most important points discussed was what it takes to be a student host ambassador. The ideas of the necessary requirements ranged from informative to hospitable.”The roles of an ambassador host are to lead, inform, and entertain student from around the country” said, Ebony Colman. Thomason also stated, “I think the role of the ambassador host should be to make the people coming to the convention are taken good care of and making sure they are having a good time.” Systems Administrator Geoff Getty added, “Personally, I think our job is to create an environment that allows every student to discover why water is important to them and their community.”

The MCNC conference may not be until April BMC’s ambassadors are already working. Those who attended previous conferences have been looking back on their past experience and seeing what they can incorporate into the Greenville conference.  Brooke Ingram said, “I think what makes the conference great is all the bonds that are formed between people from all across the nation. When I think about my past conference experiences, it is the people that I remember the most. I hope that we can provide a uniquely Greenville experience that will allow people to come together and unite.”

The newcomers to the group are preparing for what is to come. They have new ideas to bring to the group and are excited to be part of it. Ray Adcock said, “Although I’m new to MCNC, my experiences have showed that a good host will always leave a good memory. Making their time here in Greenville fun and exciting will play a big part.”
