Tech Club will be having another one of its famous gaming lock-ins on Friday Oct. 30. It will start at 6:00 pm and will run through the night till 7:00 am on Saturday. This time, however, the lock-in will be held in our own school building. It is also a Tech Club exclusive event… or is it?

All students wanting to attend the lock-in must have attended two Tech Club meetings since the beginning of October. This rule was enacted to help with crowd control. Many members of the club believed that too many people would show up without some sort of limiting factor.

This limiting factor creates a problem. Some parents may call ‘Foul!’ when they find out that Tech Club didn’t allow other students to attend. To compensate for this, Tech Club will be selling raffle tickets at lunch on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Each ticket will sell for $0.50 and gives the buyer a chance to win attendance to the gaming lock-in. Students who win are required to present their ticket, report card, and a permission slip signed by said students’ parents. The winning students must also be passing all of their classes.

Why is the Tech Club hosting the lock-in at school? Students may remember that the club held its gaming lock-ins in an off-campus location last year. The business to which they went, LFG Gaming, closed down during the summer break. Tech Club found another business of a similar nature to use as their lock-in headquarters. Unfortunately, Quantum X Gaming was too heavily priced for the members of the club. They decided to return to a concept that has already worked once this year. Gaming at school.

This gaming event was, and will be, set up and supplied by the Tech Club members. The students provide consoles, games, controls, and accessories. Mr. Getty provides power strips, extension cords, projectors, and sound systems. He also supervises the event. The group also sets up its own LAN network, allowing for game-play between multiple consoles to occur on one digital playing field.

Many of the club’s members have high hopes for the success of the lock-in. Taylor Cain, who will be part of the system setup group, believes the lock-in “will be an example of how Tech Club does events at school.” During the early planning, however, it seems that not everyone agreed with a school building lock-in. An anonymous student argued that “it was too much hassle setting it all up last time.”

Yes they can, but you’re a little late. The lock-in was on Oct. 30. You’re more than welcome to come to the next one. Just remember that there might still be a raffle for the next one.
