The girls and boys have recently been conditioning after school extremely hard; running, working out, tons of push ups and crunches as the upcoming season is right around the corner. With tryouts ahead of them and a new league of players to trample on, the athletes have kicked themselves into high gear in preparation for the fight of their lives. In early November, the teams are scheduled for try outs and students will give everything they’ve got to make the cut, but with a slim number of available spots will some dreams be crushed? “Twelve will make the team and only nine of those will dress for games,” Coach Coen tells the girls hoping to make the Varsity team.

On October 26, Coach Coen and Coach Rodney, the Varsity Girls’ coaches, met with a group of parents and their student athletes to run through what the season had in store for those who make the team. “We will have two sets of uniforms, one for home games and one for away games,” Coen explains at the parent and athlete meeting. New rules, uniforms, and expectations were discussed as well as the dreaded talk of costs and fees each player must pay in order to be a valid player on the team.

Brashier’s basketball team has recently become a Nike© supported team so players were thrilled to learn that years of old, used, and sometimes tattered uniforms are a thing of the past. Each member of the basketball teams will be receiving two new pairs of uniforms, one for away and one for home games.

The competition coming up this year has been described as nothing compared to last year’s and a totally new experience all together. The warnings have been given but the looks on each of the hopeful athletes faces seem unfazed and anxious to overcome the season ahead. “Home games this year are expected to reach capacity levels,” Mike Sinclair says during the parent/ athletes meeting. Especially since the school finally actually has a home gym of its own, more students will want to attend the home games.

With the last week of brutal conditioning almost at a close, players are ready for tryouts and practice but some fear the worst may be yet to come. Brahsier is ready to get the wheel turning and take on the tough teams the new division has to offer.  The school starts on a completely clean and different slate, the only thing the teams need now is school spirit and support, which should be nothing to worry about.
