”Ladies, prom is coming up, and it’s time to start thinking about a dress,” Senior Hannah Kelley announces before the fashion show starts. She is about to present her final product for Senior Project after months of planning and preparation. It will be over in a matter of minutes. The fashion show models showcase a variety of prom dresses and an after-party outfit.
Kelley said that the highlight of her project was “after my product was done!” Tickets to the show were sold for $3 and all proceeds went to Miracle Hill. She said that she raised about $170 from the event.
This is the first year of Seniors at BMC, and therefore, the first year Senior Project has taken place here. Senior Project teacher David Kessinger said, “The point of the project is self exploration based on students’ interests. It allows students to learn about learning.” The project involves the actual class, the portfolio, the product, and presentation. “It’s up to stude nts to choose how they want to present their final product,” Kessinger said. “A few schedule changes might be made for next year’s Seniors, nothing major though, just a few small things.” Students base their projects off their own interests, not necessarily anything that relates to their future career. However, Kelley did her project because “I want to be an event planner when I’m older.”
“My advice to upcoming Seniors: Don’t do anything that requires a lot of help from other people. Why? Because honestly, not everyone is reliable. You need to work on all of your paper work right off the bat. It’s not fun, but it’s better in the long run! If you need community service, do something for a charity,” Kelley advises.
Kessinger advises current Juniors to start reading the online Senior Project handbook and planning what they want to do. When the time comes to present an idea to their teacher this fall, they should know exactly what they want to do.
Senior Carolyn Charping said, “Make sure you pick something that is really interests you because you are going to be working on this for a whole year.” Seniors research and plan their product for the first semester before they start physically working on the project. “It’s important to have several backup plans, so that if you hit a bump, it won’t tie you down, and you can keep working on your project,” says Senior Carolyn Charping.

“Seniors research and plan their product for the first semester before they start physically working on the project.”
Oh you’re gonna wanna try to work on the product before second semester depending on what it is.
