Sam and Quinn absorbed in Left 4 Dead
In the early hours of the night on October 30, the most prominent sounds to be heard inside the Brashier building were the notes of classic rock music and the plucking of a plastic guitar. One could also hear several random one-liners, usually pertaining to warnings; “Pills Here!” “TANK!” “Ammo, Over Here!” These sounds were emanating from a game of Rock Band and a game of Left 4 Dead, just two of the titles that were brought to Tech Club’s first gaming lock-in of the year.
“I did [have fun]. It was amazing, and I would do it again.” The enthusiasm in Samuel Armbruster’s remark was abundant throughout Friday night and into Saturday morning. This was evident when almost all fifteen of the students present at the event, took up their controllers for an infection-style game of Halo 3. At the end of each game, a student would ask, “again?” All the players would raise their arms and proclaim, in unison, “Again!”
Even the raffle ticket winners had fun. John Eron, Kathryn Thompson, and Eli Cook thoroughly enjoyed the experience. John even remarked that he would happily contribute his own Xbox 360 console if he comes to the next one.
“I think the new set-up worked much better than last time” Even Tech Club advisor Geoff Getty agreed with Anthony Boehme’s statement. At the last gaming event, there were four tables set in the center of the commons area. These tables held projector that were angled upward at the walls of the second floor balcony. To avoid tripping over cables, the chairs were placed back-to-back alongside the tables. Craning necks were aching within a few short hours.
The new setup had tables and chairs facing one balcony while they rested below the opposing balcony. This system worked much better, especially with the cables located under the chairs instead of between them.
“It would be nice if more people showed up next time.” This was the only thing that Armbruster felt needed improvement. He may not have to wait long, as Tech Club wants to host another lock-in before Christmas.
