A group of guys sit together at lunch

Cameron Miller picks up her phone looks at a text she has just received and immediately sighs. She presses the end button on her phone and rolls her eyes. “I am so sick of all this dang drama.”

Students at Brashier are starting to complain about the effects of drama on their school lives.

Sophomore Trey Sanders says, “The main subjects of drama are, who likes who, and big arguments between people.”

Junior Brittany Douglas says, “I think [drama] is overrated and unnecessary.” She also feels that drama can be a distraction from school work.

Others disagree and say that once you get used to dealing with it every day you don’t really notice it. “I think that everyone creates drama for themselves,” says Junior Brittany Tatum, “and people don’t necessarily want it, but they are going to have it no matter what.”

Teachers are also noticing the effects on students from such behaviors. Grabowski says,”Beyond the distraction to learning and the potential disruptions in class, what bothers me the most is when one student is inconsiderate or cruel to another person.” Grabowski adds, “Like drama, such behavior is harmful and distracts students, and sometimes teachers, from the more important and beneficial opportunities available in school. However, Grabowski also says, “Fortunately, I think [drama] is less a problem at Brashier than in other schools I have observed or worked in.” Some students disagree with this and say that even though we are Brashier doesn’t mean that there is any less drama.

What many want to know is “what is so important that you have to fight over it?” Tatum says, “Stupid crap. Stupid, stupid, STUPID crap. I mean there are worse things to worry about than, you know, Sally dating Johnny, or something you know? Like what is that? Seriously?”

Though Brashier is a small school it is obvious that it is not immune to high school drama. Douglas says, “Guys, girls. Who did this? You did what with who? She said what about me? Oh no she didn’t. Personally, it’s all stupid and a waste of time.”

i think that we are just too old to act like this, especially juniors and seniors. Who CARES who likes who? This sounds like elementary school crap. But whatever, there are just too many people who enjoy the drama, and i dont think we will ever get rid of it. personally i HATE drama, and think its really immature and annoying.

I’m not naming any names, and no offense brunette, but there are a handfull of people that claim to hate drama and then go and start it, like this girl at lunch today (again, not naming any names) who was waving her hands (with her fingers in the shape of a cross) and kept saying “say no to PDA!” Of you, O student of my mention, there is nothing wrong with PDA. in fact, what we call PDA now was considered a standard greeting not too long ago. and if you want to get technical, hugging your friend could be considered PDA. plus, if you claim to hate drama, O unnamed student, how can you point at another student (who isn’t even talking to you) and tell him/her to go away. I’d like to see the “drama haters” practice avoiding drama, if not for yourselves then for your friends. it would make our school a lot better.

i think that everyone needs to stop complaning about the drama. if you dont like drama, then move away from it. Dont start things by talking about other people or get into their private lives. Thats immature and pointless. i agree with you Sir Michael, about the fake drama haters.

We are in high school and drama is unavoidable, so suck it up and deal with it, because if you dont then youll be pretty unhappy for the next 4 years. :)

It would be nice to have less drama. Everyday I have to go home to listen to my stepsister cry and complain about this guy she likes and how he ignores her sometimes. I would like my time at home to be peaceful but it seems that’s not going to happen anytime soon
