A shock has just been administered via an AED to restart a stopped heart, but apparently not here at Brashier. That’s right, everyone: BMC does not have an AED.
AED stands for Automatic External Defibrillator. It is an electronic device used to administer an electric shock and restart a stopped heart. EMT’s have to carry one, and lifeguards everywhere have to be trained to use them. It is not uncommon for schools and churches to have them as well.
Brashier is currently shopping for one, but have not yet found a buy they deem to be a “good deal,” according to Athletic Director Beau Bibb, because AED’s can cost thousands of dollars. This money would come from one of two places: the school budget or the Athletic Department.
For now, it seems like trained students and teachers will be the first on the scene to save a life, and according to a recent study, sixty percent of participants are trained. Among these participants were many staff members, including John Kabel and Geoff Getty. Sleep soundly, BMC, because between the first responders of the Fire Department, and the proficient staff and students, you are safe here.
