The Brashier Middle College Charter High School math team attended its first J.E.T.S (Junior Engineering Technical Society) math competition on February 17, 2009. LeighAnn Wheeler, geometry and pre-calculus teacher at Brashier offered the opportunity to be on the math team to her pre-calculus students prior to the first competition. The team had only a few weeks to prepare and raise money to be entered into the competition that was held at the Barton Campus at Greenville Tech and was the only one in the state. There were a total of three schools and four teams. Being its first year and first competition the BMC math team was the underdog of the event. “I was very proud of the way the team did,” said Wheeler. Since the competition was geared toward engineering, the math team took a tour of the Engineering department at Greenville Tech. “Getting to experience the competition just made me want to do even better next time,” said Bailey Verkennes, math team member and junior at Brashier.
