Amongst the strobe lights and hip-hop tracks, oceans of white-shirted Brashier students stomp across the gym. This was the scene at the Brashier Middle College Blackout Dance. For this, all the lights in the old Woodmont High School gym were turned out, and glow sticks, strobe lights and black lights were added instead. This gave the dance an almost rave-like feel.

“I liked the dance. It was a lot of fun,” said Junior Alex Thomason. “It was more fun than a hamper full of koalas.” Rankin Dam said, “It was an interesting take on the standard school dance. I’d go to more if they were this different.” Brandon Benavidez said, “I loved the dance. I’d love another one.”

This was the first non-formal dance the school has sponsored. In preparation, the Student Council had meetings almost every day in the week before the dance.  Funding of the dance was collected over he year in various fundraisers, including the fundraisers from earlier, such as paying to wear Halloween costumes in October. The date of the dance was changed so as not to be too near the date of the talent showcase.
