Obama’s Waterloo?
Last year South Carolina U.S. Senator Jim Demint said during a conference call to supporters that “If we’re able to stop Obama on this [health care reform], it will be his Waterloo. It will break him.” Although Demint has toned down his statement recently saying: “…what I felt like we had to do in order to get him to even listen to Republicans and listen to Americans is stop him on his massive government takeover on health care,” Demint still remains solidly against what he calls “Obamacare.” This year, South Carolinians will have to decide whether they want to keep Demint in the senate or not. One other candidate, a democrat named Mike Ruckes, is running against Demint and fully supports the Obama agenda. Demint and Ruckes will probably not face any challengers in their primaries (races to decide who will be the candidate for each party) and will run against each other in the general election in November. Here is what the two candidates believe about issues that will affect them as possible future senators (go to greenvillevotes.blogspot.com).

Budget & Economy “History has shown the best way to grow the economy and create jobs: limit the size of government, cut taxes, and give businesses the opportunity to compete on a level playing field.”
|
Budget & Economy Supports a $1,000 tax credit for working families and the elimination of taxes for seniors making less than $50,000 and higher taxes for people making more than $250,000 a year. Does not think that all levels of the government must operate within a balanced budget. |

Education Does not think that Creationism should be taught alongside Evolution. Supports a plan with an “emphasis at early care and education for infants,” in order to help children get ready for kindergarten. |

2nd Amendment Rights Strongly against heavy government regulation of firearms. Given an “A” by the NRA. |
2nd Amendment Rights Supports the idea of a conceal-carry firearm permit and believes it is a constitutional right for all law abiding citizens to own a firearm but does not think that adults 21 and over should be allowed to carry firearms on school property. |
