Brashier Middle College has a new face. In room 117, there are now two teachers. Alongside English Teacher Katie Yon, Student Teacher Jill Plating is observing the class and learning.
Plating is currently a student at Converse College working on her Master of Arts in Teaching for Secondary English. She was assigned to Brashier Middle College to student teach with Yon.
“Right now I’m observing and teaching Creative Writing, but I will be picking up a unit in English 3 and in Journalism,” Plating says.
Plating says she’s enjoyed the experience so far.
“I really like it here. Mrs. Yon is really open and easy to work with and she’s teaching me a lot, and students are really nice and respective. I’ve enjoyed learning about the school and I’m getting to know everybody.”
Plating has plans after her time here.
“I would like to teach in Greenville County in a high school, but I’m really open to whatever’s available. I’ll be teaching English somewhere, hopefully,” Plating adds.
Although she is enjoying her stay, soon she will have to depart from Brashier Middle College to pursue her career somewhere else.
“I’ll be here till probably the second week in May.”
