Student Ambassadors

Brashier Middle College students are given a voice and the tools they need to take action against problems facing the country. BMC is a part of the Middle College National Consortium (MCNC). A Consortium is a group of organizations that are united for a mission or cause. The mission of the MCNC is “to provide opportunities for students to earn an A.A. degree or credits towards that degree while still in high school,” says Terry Born, Advisor and Coach at the Middle College National Consortium.
The charter schools in the consortium send students to participate in a student conference once a year.
“Teachers nominate students who show outstanding achievements and dedication in the class,” says Sandy Brigmon, Director of Operations. The ambassadors nominated participate in community service projects, and then take their ideas to the MCNC student conference. They do this to share with other schools in the consortium. This year the conference will be held in Denver CO, and the theme is “My Green City.” Born states, “It refers to the idea that we need to make our communities and our lives more in tune with nature. Currently, in this country and throughout the world, our exploitation of energy resources, coal, oil, minerals, water and soil, have led to an imbalance that threatens the survival of our planet.”
There is a sense of pride developing throughout the school because of what the ambassadors are accomplishing. Last year the conference was held in New Orleans, LA, and was geared towards rebuilding a city. Jaque Mosley was among the students nominated to participate on the trip. “It was one of the coolest things I’ve ever done, and if given the chance I’d do it again.”
